Bette Midler’s troubled marriage with her husband
In an exclusive interview with Closer Weekly on May 30, 2021, the Hocus Pocus actress discussed her relationship with her husband.
Midler and Haselberg married on the spur of the moment. Before taking this drastic step, the couple had only known each other for six weeks.
Midler proposed to her partner, and Haselberg agreed. As a result, the couple decided to elope in Las Vegas.
In 1984, they married in front of an Elvis Presley impersonator, who was also the only witness to their union.
Unfortunately, the pair’s fortunes began to deteriorate. They used to fight all the time, which was bad for both of them.
Maybe it was because they didn’t know each other well before getting married, or maybe it was because of their different personalities.
Their marriage, on the other hand, was in shambles. “We used to fight bitterly,” Midler told Closer Weekly.
She admitted that this had been going on for two years.
After the birth of their daughter, Sophie, she and her husband reconciled and found a happy medium.
The beginning of a happy married life
The two realized where their priorities were and were able to resolve their disagreement.
They didn’t want to put their daughter through their problems, so the best option was to clean up their act.
“We came to the conclusion that we wanted to raise a child,” Midler explained. We never intended to harm that child in any way.”
She stated that the couple intended to stay together “until it got better, which it did.”
Haselberg stated in the same interview that they worked hard to create the life they have now. And this came with a cost.
Haselberg, like his wife, used to work in the entertainment industry. He used to be a performer before becoming a commodities trader.
He then quit his job as a trader to support his wife’s successful career and raise their child. Midler will be eternally grateful for this.
She admits that her husband made significant sacrifices for her and her daughter.
She also referred to him as “possibly the greatest father who ever lived.”
Haselberg spent time with their daughter, teaching her to cook and speak a foreign language.

Along with that, he looked after a partner and made a concession for Midler. The couple is grateful that they did not abandon their marriage.
