Scandal Over Josh McDaniels’ Videotaping
On November 27, the Denver Post reported that the NFL was investigating the Broncos.
The investigation was launched after it was revealed that Steve Scarnecchia, the team’s director of video operations recruited by McDaniels in 2009, videotaped the San Francisco 49ers’ walkthrough practice during the team’s Week 8 game at Wembley Stadium.
The NFL fined the Broncos and McDaniels $50,000 the same day, and Scarnecchia was fired as a result of the incident.
Scarnecchia testified to NFL investigators that he acted alone and recognized it was inappropriate to videotape the walkthrough session after the rest of the Broncos personnel left.
Following an investigation by NFL security, both the NFL and the Broncos concluded that McDaniels was uninformed of the occurrence.
A forensic examination of the computer from which Scarnecchia later deleted the tape was also part of the inquiry.
The NFL, on the other hand, fined McDaniels for failing to notify the league office of the incident as soon as possible, as required by regulation.
