Who Is Pascal Siakam?
Pascal Siakam, nicknamed “Spicy P,” is a Cameroonian professional basketball player who now plays for the NBA’s Toronto Raptors (NBA). Pascal Siakam had the support of his family, and now he is enjoying jewels in the crown moments with a slew of glories.
He was named an NBA All-Star in 2020 and the NBA’s Most Improved Player in 2019.
He’d had some explicit workouts with several NBA organizations after his successful college tenure; he wasn’t sure if he wanted to enter the NBA draft thus soon.
Later, after a supposedly positive workout with the Toronto Raptors, the franchise saw enough in him to take a chance on him, and he was picked with the 27th overall pick by the Raptors.
Siakam entered the NBA and immediately joined a squad that would win a title.
His versatility became important for a team with a defensive identity, and he’d played on a comparable team for six years.
A native of Douala, Cameroon, had no prior knowledge of basketball and did not begin playing organized basketball until the age of 17. Today, at the age of 28, he is an NBA champion.
Siakam is nimble, quick, and long-framed, and he can play both guard positions, but when asked about his preferred position in the game, he simply stated that he is a basketball player.

Pascal Siakam | Childhood & Family
Siakam was born on April 2, 1994, in Douala, Cameroon.
Tchamo Siakam, his father, and Victorie Siakam, his mother, are also athletes.
His father ran a small transportation firm and was also the mayor of Makénéné.
Siakam came from a family that values education.
At the age of eleven, his father, the mayor of a tiny town, sent him to St. Andrew’s Seminary in Bafia, Cameroon.
He is blessed with five siblings to share his company (brothers James Siakam, Boris Siakam, and Christian Siakam; sisters Raissa Siakam and Vanessa Siakam).
He despised school and was adamantly opposed to it, especially after hearing the awful stories from his elder brothers.
Despite the fact that seminary school had a demanding program with a combined schedule, he mastered enough academics and discipline in seven hard years.
Meanwhile, he and his siblings are becoming increasingly interested in soccer, and Siakam has ambitions to play professionally.
But, he admitted, he wanted to be a Catholic priest and, in fact, he preferred to play basketball.
Basketball Becomes a Passion
Nonetheless, as Siakam grew older and taller, he gradually began to broaden his interest in basketball.
Siakam initially disliked playing, but his father urged him to do so.
He graduated from Seminary school in 2012, at the age of 18, and subsequently began to develop an interest in basketball.
A basketball player was born during that period.
Simultaneously, he attended a basketball camp in Cameroon, where he met current and prospective basketball players, including Joel Embiid, who, like him, began playing basketball late.
A basketball camp in Cameroon was the turning point in his life when he was spotted by a group of Scouts and agents looking for good players to play in the NBA.
Pascal rarely watched basketball and had no idea who any of the players were.
He participated in the Basketball Without Borders camp in South Africa alongside Serge Ibaka and Luol Deng.
After meeting them, he realized that if they could make it across South Africa despite all obstacles, he could as well.
He migrated to the United States at the age of eighteen and enrolled at God’s Academy in Lewisville, Texas.
Later, from 2014 to 2016, he was recruited to play at New Mexico State.
Demise
To make matters worse, his loving father died in late 2014, just before his first college game.
Tchamo died in an automobile accident when Pascal was 20 years old.
He went through a rough patch, and it was during this time that he determined to transform himself from a shy and lazy boy into a tireless workhorse.
He grew more determined and eager to make it to the NBA at whatever cost because it was something his father had always dreamed of.
Siakam frequently credits his father for encouraging him to pursue a career in the NBA.
Following his father’s death, it was his mother who consistently supported his dreams.
Victorie has always been a rock for Pascal and his three brothers, all of whom played Division I basketball.
