Who is Mark DeRosa?

Mark Thomas DeRosa, a native of New Jersey, is a former professional third baseman and second baseman. Despite this, Mark DeRosa was a versatile player who alternated between center field, first base, pitcher, and catcher. He has been playing professional baseball for Major League Baseball since 1998.

Despite being injured numerous times over his fifteen-year career, he was still the highest-paid player on his squad.

DeRosa was born in Passaic, New Jersey, on February 26, 1975, and grew up in Carlstadt.

His father is the late Jack DeRosa, who died of cancer in 2012.

DeRosa also graduated from Bergen Catholic High School in Oradell, New Jersey.

The Atlanta Braves

After collegiate baseball, the Atlanta Braves drafted DeRosa in the seventh round of the 1996 Major League Baseball Draft.

In addition, on September 2, 1998, he made his Major League Baseball debut as a shortstop.

Despite being chosen by the Braves, DeRosa spent much of his time as a backup from 1998 to 2001.

DeRosa signed with the Texas Rangers after being opted out by the Braves.

The Chicago Cubs

Furthermore, on November 14, 2006, DeRosa signed a three-year contract with the Chicago Cubs as an off-season signing.

DeRosa also played 149 games for the Cubs, hitting ten home runs and driving in 74 runs.

However, on February 23, 2008, Mark DeRosa was transported to the hospital after experiencing difficulty breathing and a rapid heartbeat.

He set a career-high with 21 home runs and 87 RBIs while guiding the Cubs to the best record in the National League.

Indians of Cleveland

The Cubs later traded DeRosa to the Cleveland Indians in 2008.

The New Jersey native made his Indians debut as a third baseman on April 10, the following year.

Due to the injuries to other squad members, DeRosa received substantially more time on the field.

DeRosa earned a standing ovation from Cubs fans on June 19, 2009, when the Cleveland Indians played the Cubs at Wrigley Field.

In a tie game against their home team, the fans cheered the opposition player.

Cardinals of St. Louis

Furthermore, on June 27, 2009, DeRosa was traded to the St. Louis Cardinals in exchange for Chris Perez and Jess Todd by the Cleveland Indians.

However, due to a wrist injury, the former Cleveland third baseman was placed on the disabled list.

DeRosa also had surgery on October 26 to repair a ruptured tendon sheath.

Furthermore, in 2010, DeRosa declined the Cardinals’ offer of wage negotiation and left the team.

Giants of San Francisco

Following his release from the Cardinals, DeRosa signed a two-year contract with the San Francisco Giants on December 29, 2009.

However, he was unable to perform at his best at the start of the season due to numbness in his left hand.

Furthermore, when the wounded athlete went for a medical evaluation on May 11, 2010, he discovered that his previous wrist surgery had been a case of absolute neglect.

To top it all off, DeRosa’s season was over after the Giants announced that he needed long-term surgery.

The Giants, on the other hand, won the World Series that year.

Having said that, DeRosa damaged the same wrist that had been operated on earlier on May 18, 2011, when he returned to the field, ready and healthy.

As a result, many people, including his teammates and fans, assumed his career was over.

Nationals of Washington

Following that, on December 22, 2011, the Washington Nationals offered DeRosa a one-year contract.

DeRosa was placed on the disabled list on April 29, 2012, due to a muscular strain.

Furthermore, when he returned from the disabled list on September 1, he was limited in his playing time.

He did, however, become a famous mentor to his younger teammates.

Blue Jays of Toronto

DeRosa signed a one-year contract with the Toronto Blue Jays on January 22, 2013.

Surprisingly, the former professional baseball player hit his 100th home run on July 27, 2013.

He was the lone source of the team’s lead in the second inning.

In 2013, he was a pinch hitter, third base, second base, first base, and designated hitter for the Blue Jays.

Derosa received a trade offer from an undisclosed team in August, but the transaction never took place.
