When Jackie Chan Became a Victim of Death Hoax

Jackie Chan

  • The actor used to be the busiest in Hollywood.
  • He has returned to making more Chinese films in recent years.

Who is Jackie Chan?

Jackie Chan is without a doubt one of the world’s most famous action stars. He moved to Hollywood after conquering the Hong Kong silver screen as an actor and stuntman in martial arts and action films.

In Rush Hour, his debut Hollywood film, he co-starred with Chris Tucker in an action-comedy mix.

The film was a box office success, spawning two sequels. It also catapulted Chan to stardom.

Chan has slid down and leaped off buildings and swung on chandeliers for decades, resulting in countless burns, broken bones, and never-ending trips to the ER.

And, no doubt, his involvement in such perilous exploits has fueled rumors of his death time and again.

Jackie Chan Reacted to the Death Hoax

In 2015, reports spread that Chan had died, but the actor, who was still alive, quickly debunked the claims.

The Rush Hour star rushed to his own Facebook account to express his disbelief.

“When I stepped off the plane, I was stunned by two news headlines.

First and foremost, don’t worry! I’m still here.

Second, don’t fall for the Red Pockets hoax on Weibo that uses my identity.

My official Facebook page is here, and I only have one official Weibo page.

“I adore you all,” Chan wrote on Facebook.

Surprisingly, this was not the actor’s first experience with a death hoax.

Fake claims stating he died of a heart attack circulated on social media in 2011.

The rumors enraged his admirers, and the search term “is Jackie Chan still alive?” trended on Google and Twitter.

But, before the death fake could become any worse, a member of his crew confirmed the actor was still alive and working on a new film.

The notion was launched by a spoof site doctored up to look like the Australian news Web site, Yahoo! 7News, according to the Washington Post.

What Is Jackie Chan Up To These Days?

Many people bought the death fake because Chan was making fewer and fewer appearances in American films.

The actor used to be the busiest in Hollywood, but he now keeps a low profile.

He has returned to making more Chinese films in recent years, and he explained why in an interview with the Portuguese publication Filmelier in October 2020.

He replied that he had not retired from Hollywood, but that he was having problems getting employment since he was typecast as a police officer in all of the film offers.

“I’ve had so many scripts in the years after The Karate Kid, but the part is [always] a Hong Kong police officer.”

“That’s why it took me seven years to accept a job in another Hollywood picture, The Foreigner,” explained Chan.

The Foreigner was released seven years after his 2010 picture Karate Kid.

The actor also stated that he wanted his audiences to witness a different side of him with each film in which he starred.
