Robert Goulet was a singer and actor. Robert Goulet shot to fame after starring alongside Richard Burton and Julie Andrews in the Broadway musical Camelot. In his six-decade career, Goulet has received both a Grammy and a Tony Award.

Robert made his cinematic debut as a voice actor in 1962, speaking the character “Jaune-Tom” on Gay Purr-ee, after spending several years on Broadway.

Early life and Childhood

Robert Goulet was born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, on November 26, 1933.

Georges Andre Goulet and Jeanette Gauthier Goulet were his parents.

Claire Goulet was his younger sister.

His father was also an amateur singer and wrestler, and both of his parents worked in mills.

When Goulet was only 13, his father died.

Following the incident, he and his mother, as well as his sister Claire, relocated to Girouxville, Alberta, where he spent the rest of his adolescence.

They moved to Edmonton after a few years when he attended voice schools and ultimately worked for CKUA as a radio broadcaster.

In 1952, Goulet advanced to the semifinals of CBC Television’s Pick The Stars.

Later on, he appeared in series such as Singing Stars of Tomorrow, Juliette, and Opportunity Knocks, to name a few.

Robert made his cinematic debut as a voice actor in 1962, speaking the character “Jaune-Tom” on Gay Purr-ee, after spending several years on Broadway.

In films such as The Daydreamer and Taking the Fifth Grade, he also provided voiceovers.

Goulet was named Best New Artist at the Grammy Awards in 1963.

Later, for his performance as Jacques Bonnard in Kander and Ebb’s musical The Happy Time, he earned his first Tony Award for Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical in 1968.

On April 1, 1990, at the SkyDome in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, Goulet performed the Canadian National Anthem at the start of WrestleMania VI.

He died of pulmonary fibrosis on October 30, 2007, at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center, a month after being admitted.

A day after his death, theater marquees across North America were lowered in his honor.
