The sitcom ran for five seasons, from March 15, 1977, to May 23, 1981, with Needham appearing in all 112 episodes alongside Dick Van Patten, Diana Hyland, Betty Buckley, Grant Goodeve, and Adam Rich.

She also reprised her role in the made-for-television films Eight Is Enough: A Family Reunion (1987) and An Eight Is Enough Wedding (1989).

Needham has also been in other television shows besides the renowned Eight is Enough.

In the syndicated musical drama series Fame, she played two characters, Kelly Hayden and Kathy Murphy, alongside Carlo Imperato, Gene Anthony Ray, and Debbie Allen.

She also appeared as herself in the NBC criminal drama CHiPs, as Debbie Holton in the ABC comedy The Love Boat, as Denise Franklin in the NBC legal drama L.A. Law, and as a waitress in the ABC sitcom Ellen, among others.
