Sergio van Dijk’s Professional Career
Van Dijk began his career at Assen’s LTC before being selected into FC Groningen’s development academy.
In the 2000–01 season, he participated in two Eerste Divisie matches (one goal) with Groningen, helping them win promotion.
He did not play in the Eredivisie for Groningen and returned to the Eerste Divisie with Helmond Sport in 2002.
In 2005, he joined FC Emmen, where he scored 18 and 12 goals in his first two seasons.
He played for Emmen alongside his brother Danny during the 2007–08 season.
After impressing Roar scouts with his technique against Redlands United and a Gold Coast Select XI at the end of May, he was signed to a two-year deal by Queensland Roar (now known as Brisbane Roar) on June 16, 2008.
Van Dijk had a poor start to the season, scoring one goal and assisting six times in his first ten appearances.
