Childhood and Education in Early Life
RuPaul was born on November 17, 1960, in San Diego, California, as the only boy of his parents’ four children.
His parents divorced when he was seven, and he moved in with his mother and three sisters.
He and one of his elder sisters moved to Atlanta when he was 15 years old.
He attended the Northside School of Performing Arts while there.
He then began performing drag in Atlanta nightclubs, appearing in low-budget films, and working as a backup singer for Glen Meadmore and drag queen Vaginal Davis.

After failing to establish a career in Atlanta, RuPaul relocated to New York City in 1987 in the hopes of giving his dreams new wings.
In New York, he joined a new festival called Wigstock, where he performed drag, primarily in the East Village.
The festival grew slowly and steadily, which helped RuPaul’s career as a popular club dancer.
By the end of the 1980s, he was also known as the Queen of New York.
RuPaul was approached by Tommy Boy Records in 1991 to sign a recording contract because of his popularity, and two years later, he released his debut album, Supermodel of the World.
The album’s lead single, ‘Supermodel (You Better Work),’ charted at No. 2 on the dance club charts and No. 50 on the pop charts.
In 1994, shortly after releasing his debut album, RuPaul made his feature film debut in Crooklyn.
His feature film debut was followed by roles in films such as The Brady Bunch Movie, Blue in the Face, and To Wong Foo Thanks for Everything, Julie Newmar.
Not only did he work in films, but he also appeared on TV shows such as The RuPaul Show, Sister, Sister, and In the House.
RuPaul’s Drag Race reality show host
Despite initial success as a musician and actor, RuPaul’s career blossomed and achieved greater success after he began hosting the reality show RuPaul’s Drag Race in 2009.
RuPaul, the show’s host and mentor, attempts to find the most glamorous drag queen among the participants.
Lady Gaga and Nicki Minaj have also appeared as guest judges on the show.

Private Life
RuPaul is married to Georges LeBar, his longtime partner. The couple, who have been together since 1994, secretly married in January 2017.
During an interview on Hollywood Today Live in March of the same year, RuPaul revealed the news of his wedding.
Georges, on the other hand, is a painter from Australia who was born on January 24, 1973.
Awards and Recognition
In March 2018, RuPaul became the first drag queen to be honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
He received the title of the ‘Best Dressed Reality TV Judge’ by ‘Entertainment Weekly’ for the show ‘RuPaul’s Drag Race’ in 2013.
He received the GLAAD Media Award in 1999 for his contribution and support of LGBT rights.
