1995-2000

Oscar made his professional debut on November 23, 1992, with a TKO victory in the first round.

On July 29, 1994, he knocked out Jorge Paez in the second round to win the WBO lightweight title.

On May 6, 1995, he also defeated Rafael Ruelas, the IBF lightweight champion. One of his most memorable battles occurred on June 17, 1996, when he faced Mexican great Julio Cesar Chavez, which he won in the fourth round.

In January 1997, he fought Miguel Angel Gonzalez, a well-known Mexican boxer, and won on the judges’ scorecards.

Oscar’s powerful blows and aggression, as well as his resistance, consistently swayed the judges. He did, however, spend the remainder of 1997 defending his WBC Welterweight title.

Oscar faced and defeated Mexican icon, Julio Cesar Chavez, in a rematch on September 8, 1998, winning by TKO in the eighth round.

He subsequently moved up to light-middleweight and faced lineal and WBC champion Javier Castillejo, defeating him in nearly every round.

However, because of a hand injury, he did not compete for 15 months and rescheduled his flight for early 2002.

On September 14, 2002, the boxer returned to action, defeating Fernando Vargas in the most crucial victory of his career.

He demonstrated that a year away from the ring had not impaired his abilities. In 2004, he switched to the middleweight division.
